Available in a wide range of colours, marble is often used for its beauty, but is more porous, softer, and chemically sensitive than granite. Marble surfaces show wear and tear sooner than granite but can be restored with honing and polishing more easily.
The material is easily etched (polished surface dulled) by acids, including carbonated drinks and lemon juice and therefore use in a kitchen is not advisable. Marble also absorbs oils and other liquids and is easily stained. The best use of marble is for table tops, bath surrounds, a marble shower, vanities and staircases.
